We are ADI Tanzania
A community-led movement working at the intersection of gender equality, clean water, and environmental resilience — because in rural Tanzania, these crises are inseparable.
Our Story
Born from a stark reality in Morogoro
In November 2021, a group of young Tanzanian innovators refused to accept single-issue solutions. They saw communities facing interconnected crises — girls fleeing FGM, women walking hours for water, forests disappearing for firewood.
They envisioned a locally driven platform where gender equality, water access, and environmental health are addressed together — because in the lives of rural women and girls, they are inseparable.
Officially registered on 19th April 2022, ADI has grown from an idea into a movement, proving that community-led, integrated solutions create lasting change.

Mission & Vision
Our Mission
To empower communities in Tanzania through innovative, community-led solutions that advance gender equality, restore environmental health, and ensure sustainable access to water and sanitation.
Our Vision
A just, resilient, and sustainable Tanzania where every community thrives in dignity, equality, and harmony with the environment.
What We Stand For
Our core values
Every decision we make is grounded in these principles — from how we design programmes to how we engage with communities.
Community first
We do not impose solutions. We listen, co-create, and empower local leadership at every stage of our work.
Innovation in action
We embrace creativity, adapt to local contexts, and continuously improve our methods and approaches.
Gender equality
Centering women and girls as leaders and decision-makers in every programme and every committee we support.
Environmental stewardship
Protecting Tanzania's natural resources while building livelihoods that are green, dignified, and lasting.
How We Work
We don't believe in single-issue solutions
In Morogoro, communities face interconnected crises. Girls at risk of FGM, families without clean water, forests disappearing for firewood. These problems are connected — so are our solutions.
Gender Equality
Centering women and girls as leaders — from FGM eradication to women's representation in water governance committees.
Climate Resilience
Green enterprise, biomass briquettes, rocket stoves, and environmental stewardship that protect both people and the planet.
Water Security
Sustainable WASH access with community-led water governance and at least 50% women's representation on all committees.
Global Goals
Aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals
Our programmes directly contribute to five of the UN's Global Goals, ensuring our work connects local communities to a global movement for change.
Our People
Led by Tanzanians, for Tanzania
Our team of young, passionate innovators brings together expertise in community development, gender equality, environmental science, and social entrepreneurship.
